An interactive version of the popular literary humor journal

Brooklyn, NY, April 1, 2011 -- In a perfect storm of National Poetry Month and April Fool's Day, Woern LLC today launched the ASININE POETRY app for the iPhone. The FREE app not only features up-to-date selections of poetry and prose from the highly successful online humor journal, but it also allows readers to become part of the Asinine Poetry experiencee.

The app can be downloaded here.

The app allows users to:

  • Read each new monthly issue, including poems and prose
  • Hear every episode of the popular Asinine Poetry podcast
  • Record poems and submit them to be included in a future podcast
  • Submit asinine poems and stories they’ve written for consideration in the journal
  • Use Asinine Poetry's distinctive Like/Dislike poems feature, Wine or Cheese?
  • Read tongue-in-cheek biographies of each poet, or "hack"
  • Enjoy the easy access they've always wanted to the Asinine Poetry store

Launched in 1999, the Asinine Poetry online journal features humorous poetry and prose. The journal has published the likes of Daniel Thomas Moran, Allen Planz, Hal Sirowitz, Katharine Showalter, and Elizabeth Swados. The journal also produces monthly podcasts and has published several chapbooks and one compilation, Asinine Love Poetry.

"We're delighted to partner with Asinine Poetry on this endeavor," says Woern LLC president and co-founder Erich Wood. "It's a totally hilarious journal, and this app will give readers a chance to really be a part of it."

Asinine Poetry editor Richie Narvaez says, "This is a great opportunity for the journal to exist in another medium. We'll not only reach new readers, but we’ll also have a whole new interactive component to our podcasts. And hopefully everyone will buy more tee shirts."

Woern released the app on April 1 in honor of National Poetry Month as well as a nod to April Fool's Day, since, says Narvaez, "Asinine Poetry has never been known to take itself too seriously."

The new app development comes after Woern LLC's success with its premiere app, JAGIMO, launched in 2010. JAGIMO is part game, part social network -- a unique way to create mashups with people from around the world. Players enter a topic then add words or a picture. Their jagimo is sent to randomly chosen people, who then catch it and have only 5 minutes to add their own words or photos based on the original topic. When a jagimo round ends, players can check out the resulting mashup, comment on it, and share it on Twitter and Facebook.

Founded in 2010 by veterans of online media industries, and based in Brooklyn, New York, WOERN (pronounced "wern") develops location-based social games and applications.
