SONATAS TO ORPHEUS, SIX
Orpheus in the Mall
by Graham Everett
SITTING on one of the benches amid the morning
Crowd of shoppers with your pen in hand
Writing notes in your note book
The tones of various conversations, the sounds of feet
Whirling beneath the enclosed shopping mall
Echo between walls faces with store fronts
Where one can shop away pain or jealousy or
Simple boredom passing hours among others
Without contact, tension or making the manikins nervous
Most of things on sale remain high-priced
The entire culture up for sale. The unending products
Almost nothing of what one needs to stay alive
