WHY I CAN'T DATE ARTISTS
by T.C. Bertram
I can never date a Cubist.
Triangles and squares are all I see.
Disjointed face and free-floating eyes:
Is that how you see me?
I can't date a modern artist.
Blue and yellow splashes on the wall?
Paint streaks down from all around,
and that doesn't look like me at all.
I can never date an artist.
Their discerning eye is not my own.
I'll deny the shame tethered to my name,
embrace my fate and live alone.
