on valentine's day my lover sacrificed a chicken

a sonnet

ON valentine's day my lover sacrificed a chicken
he said ''i pay homage to the queen,''
he licked the blood on his fingers and smiled
i brought out the swiffer wet jet to clean

i burned a box of chocolates on the day
the red cardboard box turned into flame
the milk and dark chocolate turned to smoke
only the white creme filling remained

my lover keeps a lizard in the bathtub
i wash my hair in the kitchen sink
he wove a basket of my own hair and gave it to me
he filled the basket with carnations the color pink

all i really wanted was the open hearts locket from Jane Seymour's collection at Zales -- is it too late to tell him that?
