Baking with Wine
TODAY A FRIEND celebrates a birthday
Wearing an apron, I mix batter for a cake.
Careful not to spill the wine,
but the eggs become happy eggs.
Melted chocolate flows into happy eggs
breakfast and dessert in one
White flour on the second bottle
will not dim its tannic beauty
Holding the cake, hot from the oven,
one more sip calls my thirsty mouth
Together we journey down to the cool floor
A cork, surprised, laughs with me under a chair
Nearby, an unfrosted handful of cake
Each bite a chocolate cloud from heaven
