The Poet

by Bill Robertson

YOU dress the way a proper poet should
To show just how creative that you are.
To look like common folk would be so gouche
Everyone must know you're avant-garde.
And when you read you must enunciate
With a lot of pauses for effect.
Otherwise the listeners may not know
That they're listening to a poem that is great
It's filled with unique language and grand truths
That only connoisseurs will understand.
Oh, yes, when you're a gifted poet,
You must in every way be sure to show it.
Or else the folks you meet just may not know it.
