Naturalist Epitaph

by Bret Addison

THE robin hops on the ground,
then flies to the branch. Blue
sky embraces him, highlighting
his breast. Wind makes the
leaves flutter in Autumn sunlight.

A Fox squirrel scurries up the wide
trunk of the Oak tree, ears alert.
Morning shadows filter through
the branches and dance on the grass.

Somewhere, Canadian geese honk,
A Grizzly Bear is getting an RF ID tag.

You get the picture. Big fucking deal.
