The Menu

by Daniel Thomas Moran

I would not be the one to offer regret
If a liver and an onion had never met,
I would not be inclined to flip my lid
Without a plateful of lox or squid.
There are those things we will
And those things we’ll not eat
What's the surprise that sweet breads
Are anything but sweet.
While there might be lightning
In that Little Brown Jug
Who'd have escargot if The French
simply called it a le slug?
Head cheese, truffles, sausage and tripe
Caviar just fish eggs with a bit of hype.
I'll give a pass to an olive,
But olive loaf is too phony.
What a miserable way to screw up
A nice slice of baloney.
